Identifying the Purpose of a Resume
When I started working and for many years after subsequent job changes and whenever I start to update my Resume, my thought process was ‘will I get my dream job once I have an updated resume? Just recently after almost 15 years in my career, I realized that the purpose of a Resume and even a cover letter is to land me an interview and not to be successful in acquiring a job.
Great Resume
A well-written Resume’s role is to grab the quick attention of recruiters and of hiring managers and stand out from the hundreds or even thousands of applications received. A resume is a sheer summary of experience, achievements, professional skills, and qualifications.
Grabbing Attention
In most cases, the recruiters spend an average of 6-8 seconds screening a resume before it lands in the dustbin or at the hiring manager’s desk. If the Resume, is well-written with a clear structure, and reasonably good content that matches the skills recruiters are looking for, then it has clearly justified its purpose, and shortlisting to the interview is more or less confirmed. Another crucial aspect of a resume is to introduce the applicant to their hiring managers and inform the important aspects to them in a quick time frame.
